Red Magic 9 Pro and Pro+ official with SD 8 Gen 3 up to 24GB RAM

The Red Magic 9 Pro and Pro+ from ZTE’ nubia brand are now official and they bringing some of the most impressive specs on a gaming phone to date. Both new devices feature the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, refined designs, shoulder keys and RGB cooling fans. The two models share the same basic hardware with the differences coming in the battery capacity, charging and RAM capacity.

Both Red Magic 9 Pro phones are equipped with 6.8-inch flat AMOLED screens manufactured by BOE with 1,116 x 2,480px resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and sleek bezels with no visible cutout for the 16MP front-facing camera which is integrated under the display. The panels on both devices are rated at up to 1,600 nits of peak brightness and offer 2,160Hz PWM dimming to fight off eye soreness. There’s an UD fingerprint reader which doubles as a heart rate monitor.

Red Magic 9 comes with 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256/512GB UFS 4.0 storage while the 9 Pro+ variant is configurable with 16/24GB RAM and up to 1TB of storage. Both phones feature the updated ICE 13 cooling system which now covers a total area of 10,182mm2.

The refined cooling system is advertised to lower the phone’s running temperature by up to 18° and features a graphene layer below the screen as well as a larger air duct for better airflow. The fan inside the device now spins at 22,000 RPM and boasts 30% improved thermal conductivity.

All Red Magic 9 Pro models feature aviation-grade aluminum frames and completely flat glass backs with no protruding camera sensors. The camera department features a 50MP main shooter based on Samsung’s GN5 sensor with OIS and a 50MP ultrawide lens. The software department is handled by Red Magic OS 9.0 based on Android 14.

The major differences between the two phones come in the battery capacity and charging speeds with the Red Magic 9 featuring a 6,500 mAh battery with 80W wired charging while the 9 Pro+ gets a smaller 5,500 mAh battery with support for 165W fast charging. Both phones also feature Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity as well as a headphone jack and IR blaster.

Both phones come in black, white transparent and black transparent colors. Red Magic 9 Pro starts at CNY 4,399 ($620) for the baseline 8/256GB trim and goes up to CNY 5,399 (761) for the 12/512GB transparent versions.

Red Magic 9Pro+ starts at CNY 5,499 ($775) for the 16/256GB trim and goes up to CNY 6,999 ($987) for the 24GB RAM and 1TB version. Open sales in China kick off on November 28 while international pricing and availability will be detailed at a later point.
