The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 is said to arrive earlier than expected, and while we are yet to hear anything about it from the Korean conglomerate, we just got our first look at the Galaxy Z Fold5, courtesy of OnLeaks, who shared a 360° video and 5K renders of the foldable smartphone.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 looks almost identical to its predecessor Fold4, and at first glance, you might not be able to tell the two phones apart. However, upon closer inspection, you can notice that the LED flash placed inside the camera island on the Galaxy Z Fold4 is now located on the right side of the top camera on the Galaxy Z Fold5.
While the design remains largely unchanged from last year, the hinge mechanism will be the most notable difference this year. The Fold5 is rumored to use a droplet-style hinge to reduce the gap when the smartphone is folded and hide the display crease when it’s unfolded.
The source says the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 will measure 154.9 x 129.9 x 6.3 mm when unfolded and 154.9 x 67.1 x 13.5 mm when folded. The thickness of the smartphone will be 13.4 mm in the folded state. In comparison, the Fold4 measured 155.1 x 67.1 x 14.2-15.8 mm when folded and 155.1 x 130.1 x 6.3 mm when unfolded. The reduction in thickness of the Fold5 when it’s folded could be attributed to the new hinge mechanism.
The source also claims that the Galaxy Z Fold5’s folding screen will measure 7.6″ screen diagonally, while the outer screen’s diagonal will be 6.2″, corroborating previous rumors. The Fold4’s display also measured the same, but since the Fold5 is coming with reduced dimensions, its bezels will be thinner.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 is rumored to go official in July alongside the Galaxy Z Flip5, so expect to hear more about these folding smartphones in the coming weeks.
